cover:
The club has recently commissioned the remanufacture of Cylinder Heads which have been
getting seriously scarce. As advised in Sloper 01/00...
"At last after many years of trying to get patterns made for the
cylinder heads they have finally been made. Not only the patterns, but
a couple of heads have been cast and machined. All the various jigs and
fixtures are made, and production can begin. The twin port heads are
exactly as the originals, but are fitted with hardened valve seats,
said by some to be necessary for the successful use of unleaded petrol,
though I have yet to be convinced in our low compression, slow revving
engines. However the cost of fitting valve seats at the machining stage
is minimal compared to the price of the Heads, so why not - The single
port heads have the same finning as the twin ports, and rather than
just block up the other port, a proper job has been done and the port
removed and the fins continued round. The original single port heads
had larger finning at the back and front, but this would have meant
having another pattern made and been too expensive.
The price is £340.00 for either head, this is for the bare head,
valves and guides etc, are extra. A deposit of £150 is needed if
you want one. To enable the castings to be purchased and we will need
to know whether you want single or twin port and the size 600 or 650
also for the 600, the type of pushrod tude, screw in or 'o' ring, hole
sizes and centres are different. Closing date for [] first batch is one
month after this appears in Sloper [too late now] and they should be
ready 6=8 weeks after that. Your last chance to buy a new head this
century, don't miss out, thanks Dave Thornber. send your brass to Bob
Godsmark address on back page [of Sloper]."
